How to Reach Ascoli Piceno

Ascoli Piceno is a town in the Marche region of Italy with a population of 51,400. The town lies at the confluence of the Tronto River and the small river Castellano and is surrounded on three sides by mountains.

By airplane

The nearest airports to Ascoli Piceno are:

  • Pescara Airport: the easiest way to reach Ascoli Piceno is by train starting from Pescara Centrale railway station to San Benedetto del Tronto railway station (it takes less than 1 hour). From San Benedetto del Tronto to Ascoli Piceno see "by train" information;
  • Ancona Airport: the easiest way to reach Ascoli Piceno is by train starting from Ancona railway station to San Benedetto del Tronto railway station (it takes approximately 1 hour). From San Benedetto del Tronto to Ascoli Piceno see "by train" information;
  • Rome "Fiumicino" Airport: the easiest way to reach Ascoli Piceno is by coach, using Autolinee Cardinali or Start Spa. There two choices:
    • directly from the airport: the coaches leave from Terminal 3 exit (departures at 2.10 p.m., and 5.00 pm – one way fare 20 euros, return 32 euros); the trip to Ascoli Piceno railway station takes approximately 4 hours. The coach starts in front of Terminal 3 under the tunnel near the "Fiumicino" railway station (see the map). Tickets for the coach can be purchased on board.     • travelling through Roma: you have to take the train "Treno Metropolitano FM1" from "Fiumicino" railway station (see the map) to Roma "Tiburtina" railway station. Tickets for the train can be purchased in the station. The trip to Roma "Tiburtina" takes 45 minutes (see the timetable in Italian). Then, you have to take the metro line "B" for 3 stops (direction "Laurentina") and exit at stop "C. Pretorio" metro station (see the metro map). Coaches to Ascoli Piceno leave from "Viale C. Pretorio 84" (departures at 8.00 a.m., 1.50 p.m., 3.05 p.m., 5.00 p.m., 6.00 p.m., and 8.15 p.m.); the trip to Ascoli Piceno railway station takes approximately 3:15 hours. Tickets for the coach can be purchased on board. Taxis from Roma "Fiumicino" to "Viale C. Pretorio" are available and the price is approximately 40 euros. By train

The biggest railway junction close to Ascoli Piceno is San Benedetto del Tronto, conveniently connected by trains to Milan, Turin, Bolzano, Bologna, Ancona, Pescara, Bari and Lecce. Timetables and information are available on Trenitalia website. We suggest to take Eurostar city "Frecciabianca" train until Ancona and then take a local train to San Benedetto del Tronto. Connections between San Benedetto del Tronto and Ascoli Piceno are guaranteed via local railway line and bus (START S.p.a.) with plenty of journey all day long (The trip takes approximately 1 hour; timetables from Ascoli Piceno to San Benedetto and from San Benedetto to Ascoli Piceno are available) 

By car

There’s a convenient junction between Ascoli Piceno and the tollgate of San Benedetto del Tronto on the A14 Motorway “Adriatica”. The first exit, Marino del Tronto, phases into Ascoli from the Eastern outskirts. The second exit, Porta Cartara, leads to the Southern part of the city and then straight to downtown. The exit is conveniently located 200 mt. from a new parking area able to accomodate up to 400 vehicles.
From Rome, Ascoli can be reached via A24 Motorway “Roma-Villa Vomano” and then on into SS80 towards Giulianova. After entering A14 (towards Ancona), go on to San Benedetto del Tronto and then follow the above directions. Another option – a shorter and panoramic route – would be the SS4 “Salaria”. It takes approximately 3 hours to reach Ascoli Piceno from Rome.
From Florence and Perugia, the most convenient way to reach Ascoli Piceno is via Foligno (SS75 and SS3), Piedipaterno (SS395 and 209), Serravalle di Perugia (SS396), Acquasanta Terme (SS4). The Forche Canapine Pass tunnel makes it easy to reach Norcia Plane in Umbria.
